Do you know that our life is filled of ideologies and symbols?
We always see large boards aside from the road. Nowadays, these deliberate advertisements have come to be a new form -- they no longer ask you to straightforwardly purchase their products. Instead, they seem to read everything but relevant. A board may discuss how important the family life is, how road trips would be a fantastic experience, or even resonate with you that nowadays life is fast-paced and exhausting. However, as ordinary people, we are aware that there are actually something beneath the somehow relatable surface -- as companies invest money to build and disseminate the advertisement. Yes, they are selling a product. They sell you daily applicance, cars, and employment apps, and this is precisely the symbols and ideologies work -- by implying the underneath ideologies with the long chains of symbols.
There are something even deeper beneath the intent to sell, something more essential for a capitalist ideology. These boards are delivering that people should comply the capitalist status quo. We should feel satisfied even though we live in such a reactionary and suppressing society. We can see these symbols everywhere, as our recognition is built upon symbols. It is important for us to identify the symbols, and be very cautious no to be tempted by them, for they serve for the interest of the power and capital. |
